Dáil Visit
Sixth class visited the Dáil and the E.U. offices. We sat in the gallery in the Dáil and had a great view of everything that was going on. A bell rang and the T.Ds entered the chamber. The Ceann Comhairle then came in and everyone stood up and the Ceann Comhairle led a prayer. They began discussing banks. |
|
|
We then went to the Seanad. They were discussing taking the Angelus off RTE. I was on the TV monitor! We were given a coke and a bar afer a tour of the building. We saw the flag that John F. Kennedy gave to the Dail and people say it has blood on it from being carried through battles and wars! Our guide told us the history of Leinster House and showed us portraits of former taoisigh. |
We then walked to the EU offices. They talked to us about the EU and showed us a DVD. Then we had a table quiz. It was a great trip |

Every morning there was a book swap. you dropped in a book you read and got to pick a new one off the table. A journalist called Nicola Cooke from "The Sunday Business Post" spoke to us. Marilyn Taylor and Tom McCaughren told us why they liked being an author and what books they wrote. Martina Devlin, Fiona Kelly and Chris Binchey came in to see the other classes. Every class did paired reading. We read to Ms. Donnelly's first class. we made books and did some art all about reading and books. We also had a table quiz. There were 34 teams! Well done to the winners, team 10. They got a book voucher as their prize. every day at 12.00 we had D.E.A.R. which means drop everything and read. We had a great week. It was brilliant.

Our New School Yard
During the Summer, we got our yards renovated.
The prefab and the shelter were demolished and the existing surface was dug up. After lots of preparation, a new asphalt surface was laid. Now the basketball yard consists of a soft green matting. The other yards have yellow shapes. I love our new yards because there is lots of space to play.

Official Opening
On Friday the 8th of May, the whole school gathered in the Nano Nagle Hall. Very important people came, such as Mary Hanafin, the Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Sister Nivard and the oldest member of the Presentation Community, Sr. Bridget. We had a blessing ceremony which the sixth class opened with a beautiful harmony of "Ave Maria". Aisling Walsh sixth class, read a poem she wrote about our school. The Archbishop and the Minister both made speeches about how good our school is. |
 |
 |
Afterwards we all went outside to raise our first Green Flag. We all admired the beautiful mural in our Serenity Garden. Ms. Hume made a small speech about how we achieved our Green Flag. Mary Hanafin then raised the flag which looked very nice. The whole school clapped and sang the "Green Song" which was great fun. It was a very special day and we are very proud of our new school building and green flag.
